National Safe Driving Month Reminds Commercial Operators and Drivers to Follow Safety Measures
Acadia Insurance and local motor transport associations offer safety tips
WESTBROOK, Maine (June 5, 2012) – June is National Safe Driving Month, and most people view this as a time to remind adults and teens to buckle up and turn off cell phones. However, fleet owners also must do their part to help keep roads safe by extending safe-driving education to their commercial drivers who often spend long days and nights on the road.
As a result, Acadia Insurance, in partnership with the New Hampshire Motor Transport Association and the Motor Transport Association of Connecticut, Inc., is offering safe driving considerations for commercial drivers to honor National Safe Driving Month, which reminds us all that motor vehicle safety should be top of mind in business operations.
“Motor vehicle incidents continue to be the leading cause of work-related accidents, and according to U.S. Labor statistics, highway incidents have been the number one cause of workplace fatalities since 1992,” said Jim Sievert, Assistant Vice President, Loss Control, Acadia Insurance. “That’s why business owners should review their procedures and ensure they adequately address safe driving behaviors, driving conditions, and proper maintenance of all vehicles.”
To employ safe practices while on the roads, it’s essential to consider distracted driving, driver fatigue and vehicle maintenance, Sievert added.
